A humble beginning..

On March 29, 2015 we launched this blog to honor the men and women who over the past 24 years have come together to create assets and platforms of immense elegance and inspired by the conviction that robust solutions are built on the foundation of simple and elegant algorithms that do not necessarily require software architecture punditry. In doing so they collaborated to build products and solutions that have withstood the test of time.  At a  time when most insurance solution efforts were spectacular failures resulting in serious losses in time,  effort and investments of up to $ 30 Million, the humble, grassroots effort of  counting success one happy customer at a time was slowly being noticed by the Industry that had dismissed the effort as romantic and naïve. The industry was further astounded that we were also nimble adopters of transformational technology such as the Internet and many of our customers found this to be a real and measurable business edge over their much larger competitors. They were no longer customers. They became friends deeply appreciative of our contribution to their business.
Our emphasis on being real, not disrespecting our customers as only a means to attain annual revenue objectives and above all the belief that operating as an inspired team that stays together will help us more than meet whatever challenges future brings was at the core of this durable and successful endeavor. It was in the best tradition of entrepreneurship and we were proud of it.
We realized that we don’t want that spirit to fade away. It may or may not meet the benchmarks of the market that crown winners and losers on impersonal and hackneyed benchmarks. That is neither our aspiration nor our style. And when we look around we find that some of the greatest companies have a genesis similar to ours. We have company.
A pioneering spirit and willingness to take on whatever future brings is the oxygen of a blue blooded entrepreneurship. And that we had in abundance.
At a time when the Internet was largely unheard of, when business IT landscape was dominated by closed, proprietary technology, and when Indian IT was more about sourcing the best and brightest of India (schooled in elite institutions) that labored on mundane tasks of writing code that was more appropriate for a high schooler, we dreamt of developing a world class enterprise solution for a vertical industry. For many it seemed stupid and foolish. And maybe they were right.
Our capital was a pioneering spirit. While we don’t claim to have invented the sliced bread, we feel we were one of the first adapters of committing to an open platform, a vertical solution on relational database, offshore development center focused on the IP business, and the Internet.  We went on our own terms to customers and bagged some prestigious projects (sometimes against billion dollar corporations). While these undertakings were the engines of our customers business, nearly all Indian IT companies were tweaking departmental software or writing code under strict customer’s control. They got the revenues, we got respect. And we preferred it that way.
After a brief detour, we are back on our journey that started 25 years ago…..

Passion, Commitment and Leadership are the few things I have learnt while working with you and Praful. I believe that is the secret sauce to be “happily successful”. Leaders can create a ripple effect to create more leaders by inspiring them, there by changing the entire world. You have inspired and bought the change in me… It was my pleasure to be a part of your journey and I wish you and Praful all the very best for your journey to be continued!!!

Have been reading your posts on insurance technology. I read and compare them with others' articles, they are way ahead of time. It is just a reflection of your thinking and vision. Not really been a part of your journey, but fortunate enough to meet during your Pune visit. Wont’ say it's time to throw away the alarm clock! as I read the concluding line. Best luck!

Dear Anil – I want to thank you for all you have taught me in this business. The knowledge and wisdom you have imparted upon me and many like me has been our guiding light and support throughout our career.

Many, Many years ago as I nervously entered our small office in 11 Penn Plaza and settled into a daily rhythm, I remember being amazed that such a company actually existed; one that cares about its people, one that is full of great opportunity, and one that truly celebrates the achievements and milestones of its employees.

These past few weeks, have been hard for me to think about not seeing you every day, but personally I smile when I think about how much you taught me. Anil – You are leaving a great legacy that will resides in all of us in P&C.. I wish you the very best in your future..

    Dear Anil,
I always see the opportunity I got with STG/Keystone as one of the few precious gifts I have received from life.
I was almost a novice to IT industry when I joined with just less than a year of prior work experience. And immediately I fell in love with the product, people and the "spirit" that you refer to in your blog! That affair continues even today although it does get tested a lot in recent times 🙂
I would like to thank you and Praful for all that you gave to us and the tremendous opportunities I received with STG to develop as a professional and as a person.
You have been and always be an inspiration for me.
I would like to wish you and Praful all the very best!
    Thank you!!!

A dream when shaped carefully by efforts, nurtured passionately with a vision does wonder, creating a "One hell of a story to Inspire"!!

I was not fortunate enough to experience this ride from its inception, but have been lucky enough to get along later. During my 6.5 years out here I have come to terms that it has been an amazing place to learn, ideate, experiment and execute – all to build something great. Without a second thought credit goes to the leaders who enable and liberate us to innovate. I can vividly recall the handful opportunities I got to meet and converse with you personally; invariably you influenced & encouraged us to envisage what next – always with a broad smile!

Though I could not bag the experience of working with you directly, but allow me to express my gratitude for the inspiration, vision and enthusiasm you have cascaded down to next line in command thus creating many leaders from whom we could benefitted. For sure I have experienced the ripple effects and energy while working under the leadership of Nixon-a great leader himself.

Thanks Anil, for bringing the best out of people, creating world-class solution thence making all of us a part to this journey to remember.

“You measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you.”

I wish you all the best for your new outset, I am sure you will repeat the chronicles in even more grandeur!

I hear the sound of the bugles, and with it comes the fond memories of being a part of the tribe where I once proudly stood up to be counted as worthy
A feeling of oneness that’s’ was reinforced through crucible of combat together, a feeling of fulfillment when the booties where shared and reminiscence of a place where my 'Company' meant my friends and of course the bells didn’t curve and neither was success 'marginal' nor were witches hunted.

Working in STG has been one of the best times in my life, thank you so much for it!

Anil and Praful you both have been a tremendous inspiration to me and definitely left a legacy beyond just creating software asses

Today as I stand up with a dream it’s still benchmarked with the audacity of your vision and with spirit and passion that I have experienced before.
Wishing you all the best for the rest of the Journey!

All the very best with your new endeavour, if you ever need a friend to help out, you have the details and I'm there if you need me 😉

But that person took U turn and followed me in pantry and said Hi to me!!! it was you Anil sir. The respect for you just gone many levels up and i got to know what is meant by inspiring someone in life…
Anil , You are true leader and inspiration through out our keystone/STG Journey..

I remember meeting you and Praful back in the late 90s. You built a well-respected organization from that initial effort, and I'm sure you'll do so again. All the best to you on your new journey.

    Dear Praful & Anil,
“The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been” This aptly sums up your inspirational leadership. Personally, it has been a great journey and truly a life changing decision to join STG way back in 2000.

I look back and wonder in awe how STG was transformed from a small player in the US Insurance market to a leader in the industry. Though the journey was a very hard and difficult, the commitment, passion demonstrated by both of you encouraged teams to give their best. Importantly, the freedom and authority you gave to the people to chase the dreams of a growing organization helped them to learn from their failures and become strong individuals. Whatever little success I had thus far in my professional career, I owe both of you for the best opportunities that showered on me.

It a great feeling to know both of you and learn from your experience. Knowing your passion and commitment to excel in whatever you are embark on I am sure you will be even more successful in your new endeavor.

Good Luck and continue to be inspiring leaders.

Dear Anil and Praful, I read this blog with great interest. Though I was not part of the STG team, I knew Praful (and through him met you as well) before STG was formed. Over the years I have been aware of your growth as a company and I was also pleasantly surprised to hear about STG being bought by Mastek – especially as I was one of the first three employees of Mastek when they were known as Mascon 🙂 But reading the many comments written by those who worked for you both at STG over the years, I can see their loyalty and their sense of gratitude for your leadership and for inspiring them – which means much more than the mere increase in company sales or profits.

I am sure you will continue to build greater things in the future. Good luck to both of you!
